Write about a few of your favorite family traditions.

Hmm…this doesn’t happen anymore really, and it’s kind of an odd “tradition” if you would call it that, but, here’s my story:

At least once a year, during a festive time/holiday/birthdays, etc., one of us in our family would buy those cheap dollar or two lottery tickets, usually one per person. And sometimes we won and most times we didn’t. Never the big win though and that’s okay.

Now thinking about it, it wasn’t about the lottery tickets or winning necessarily, it was that feeling of hope before knowing the results. It was that possibility that maybe our lives could change in a huge way by a simple game. It’s not something we do anymore and it wasn’t even often when we did, but I guess I’m kind of grateful for those happy hopeful moments in between not knowing and knowing.

What do you enjoy doing most in your leisure time?

What I enjoy most in my leisure time is learning something new. It could be anything from reading articles, watching videos/tv/movies, or even just browsing blogs on WordPress. I love conversations with my loved ones. I love listening to new music or learning a new recipe.

If you could make your pet understand one thing, what would it be?

I guess if I had a parakeet or a parrot, I’d let them know that their ability to speak in human language is totally rare among other animals and that to be better communicators, they would have to cultivate their listening skills.

What’s your dream job?

My dream job would be one that doesn’t feel like a job. Ideally, it would involve working on projects that actually mattered and made the world better forever. And, since we’re talking about a dream here, it’d be super awesome if it was fun and enjoyable, too, working alongside with only wonderful people who actually want to do good work. Drama magnets and gossip-obsessed need not apply!

What makes a good leader?

I’ve encountered some wonderful managers/supervisors and I think it is because they displayed these characteristics:

  1. They valued my time. Whether we had one-on-one meetings, or tasks I had to perform, they appreciated the time I took to complete them or met with them. When they valued my time, I felt that they valued me.
  2. They knew how to do their job as well as my job. If I had to take unexpected sick time, I knew I could count on the good managers to cover for my position and keep operations smooth. The bad ones barely did their job.
  3. They treated me like an equal. Yes, their titles prove differently, but we are all humans. They treated me as such. They actually cared about me and respected me. And they trusted me to do my job how I wanted to do it, and not necessarily their way.
  4. They were always willing to listen to me whether it’s my concerns or suggestions for the company or project, they took a real interest in what I had to say.
  5. They were good people. Plain and simple. They had a smile on their face often, took on challenges with a strategy and a plan, and didn’t look for problems that weren’t there. No drama, basically.

Can you share a positive example of where you’ve felt loved?

I’m going to sound cheesy, but love is all around. The warm sunlight bright and beautiful. The birds chirping outside my window. The stray cat and bunny hopping and walking in the yard. When there is delicious food ready to eat. When there are smiles and laughter in every room of the house. When the toilet paper rolls supply get restocked each time and there’s always someone to talk to and hug and kiss… all that’s love to me!

Where can you reduce clutter in your life?

The hardest area in my life to reduce clutter is the sentimental items I have. These range from gifts I’ve received, items I’ve accumulated from schooling/moving/etc., and stuff that remind me of happy memories and/or of loved ones (especially those who have passed).

I know they definitely need to be addressed as I don’t want these items to become burdens to someone else. I just have to figure it out eventually.

What is your favorite animal?

I don’t have a favorite animal. There are a few I am more fond of than others, like bunnies, cats and birds. However, overall, I find a lot of them so beautiful with having such unique personalities.

For instance, when I went to Oahu, Hawaii, I visited the aquarium and the zoo. It was so peaceful and fun. I saw beautiful, calming fish:

When I went to the zoo, I saw a variety of different animals: elephants, tortoises, peacocks, flamingos, sea turtles, penguins, etc. I captured footage of some of them in my mini Hawaii vlog.

Think back on your most memorable road trip.

Easiest prompt to answer so far. Redwood National and State Parks California.

Here is what I wrote in a past post about visiting the national park:

“Simply put, I fell in love with this place, the feelings, the environment, the ease. I haven’t felt this connected to any one specific experience in a long time. It was fulfilling and refreshing. I needed it.”

Within this trip, I also visited: Fern Canyon, Klamath River, and Smith River

I felt so passionate about this trip that I made a few short films about it. It’s truly one of the best places I’ve ever visited.

What snack would you eat right now?

Oooh, what a delicious question! Mmm…so I’m definitely going for something on the unhealthy side, sorry health food nuts! I’m going to cheat and say three things.

They are super random and they are all totally not what I typically eat at all. I think it has been years and possibly decades since eating a couple of these items actually. I have no idea why my brain (and stomach) decided on these but, they are *drum roll*:

  1. Doritos 3D crunch chips
  2. Cannoli
  3. Freezer pops

Which of these would you pick?

Come up with a crazy business idea.

So, this is less about a crazy business to exist, but more like, a crazy idea that perhaps businesses can adopt.

I think every business should give their employees a charity fund that gets reloaded every year. Each employee would be given a couple hundred dollars to donate or give to any charity/non-profit(s) of their choosing. In the same vein, perhaps businesses can give employees a paid week to go and volunteer at a charity of their choosing.
